The gaming world in my perspective has changed quite a bit. The business has become a billion dollar industry, and it seems like every game that comes out get some type of controversial tag label . Like the Medal of Honor game received the bad stigma with the Taliban being in one of the Multiplayer modes. EA Sports changed it to a new name…Yet, everyone accepts it now. Makes no sense…Alas, I’m pushing away from what I really want to talk about, which is my view of gaming. Seeing that my love of games and the desire to be part of the gaming industry in some sort of way, led me into creating this blog about gaming.
Gaming as a whole has changed a lot from when I was born (In 1988) until now. Mainly the graphics have changed. Who remembers Sega? Yeah, I do! I remember when I thought those graphics were HOT! Now that we have PS3, 360 and Wii, my view has changed. Considerably. The one thing that has never changed is my love of Game play. I don’t know about any of you all, but game play is the deciding factor if I really, really love a game….Or if I really, really hate the game. I also love the environment of the game. That part of me never changed going from one console to another. As games go on, I notice a big change with story. The “Story”, or campaign, wasn’t as deep like it was in the 90’s. Games like Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, and so forth, are getting deeper and deeper. Heck, does anyone remember Donkey Kong or Mario Kart story line? Because I don’t. And if you do, please leave a comment and tell me and anyone who doesn’t know about the main objective to those games.
Getting back to the main picture, talking about the story brings me into my next point which is replay-ability. If the campaign story is compelling, no matter how easy the game play is, I will play it over and over again. Off the top of my head, Tony Hawk’s T.H.U.G game I found really interesting. I played that game over and over again. I had gotten so good at it, that I could beat it in a day. Now, you may have a different opinion about the game, but I was surprised to see a skateboarding game take that route that I really found it cool.
Graphics has been getting a lot of praise these past couple of years. I’m afraid though, that people have been loving graphics more than the game play. People seem to praise the graphics side, but not caring about the Game Play side of things. Then again, I fall in that trap to. I think we need to have a process where both meet at a line. Where those games with Brilliant graphics have BRILLIANT game play too. Graphics without game play makes no logical sense to me, at all. But, I do love both. Hypocritical? You decide.
I’ve give you a little taste on my view of gaming in this day of age. I think this is a rollercoaster that we WON’T be stopping. This was my first article, of a lot that I will be doing for this blog. A lot more interesting topics that I will share in my point of view. I would like to hear your point of view about gaming from when you were born until now, so leave a comment.
