The year has rounded down. Now, it’s time to pick your choice for Game of the Year Award. If you have a pick that’s not on the list, choose other and post a comment about the game you think is the best. I will state whichever game won in February.
As I open up my present and what surprise do I see? Yeah, Black Ops for the PS3 console. Yeahhhhh Budddddy!
I open up and played it, and from first impressions thought it was pretty awesome. The graphics are real fresh, characters look good and I dig the environment. But I have to say, this game reminded me of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Las Vegas. The look and feel match up to it very well. Now, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing to you personally, but it was a pleasant surprise to me.
If you are looking to go back into the old war days, you got your wish. This game basically takes place in 1961, basically the Bay of Pigs era. And you definitely can tell that they tried to make this game seem like a secret top mission with the black out words and secret coding in some of the titles (Which I found real impressive).
What I really like so far, is that this game has more of a “Story” then the Modern Warfare series. It’s not just missions clogged up together, they have a well thought up strategy. Which I love.
The cutscenes are well-done and the game play is excellent. Well, it was a bit readjusting for me because I normally play shooting type games on XBOX 360. But, I’m quickly getting the hang of it.
So, my first impressions is positively good. As long as they keep this route I know that I will enjoy it. I will be posting a review right after I finish the game. So be on the look out for it.
I hope you all had a very good Christmas!
I wasn’t planning to write a blog until after Christmas, but I’ve decided to squeeze one in before Ol’ Saint Nick time…
I hear different opinions everyday about why someone picks a game. It’s so varied. Everybody has a strong opinion about why they chose this game over this, or why they perfer this one genre over the other’s. There was a topic I was looking at the other day on a gaming board, that one user express that he mainly buys games just for the story.
As I look through my collection of games, I start to see a bit of consitency. All my games is story based. Which is a no brainer, as I got older my view in games has changed. I would rather choose a great story over great graphics any day. And in any case, I think that the past 6-7 so years, developers has been focusing on the storylines of games. One game I pick out may not be a choice for you, but I love it. It’s Gears of War. That game has intriging story that keeps you on the hook from beginning to end. This is coming from a person who originally NEVER played a “Scary” type of game. But I do enjoy it (I enjoy so much so that I have all three books). The point I’m trying to make, is that clearly game developers has for a niche in the story side of the department.
But, my worry is that they may lost some prestige with the other side. Like Game play. Some games don’t have good/average gameplay like there counterparts (Story and Graphics) have. Maybe they are focus more on the story and graphics? I Don’t Know. But, then again, that’s in the eye of the beholder. Some games do in fact have good game play, but one can easily argue in any game that it doesn’t. What happen to the old school mechanics in the 90’s? Is graphics the ONLY clause to make a game now-a-days?
Is it the compelling story that is clearly taking over the industry, the reason you pick up this certain game? Is it the extraordinary graphics that makes you go wow over a game? Or is it the knock em out game play that you see on trailers that make you pick up the game?
I really want to know. So, answer the poll and leave a comment!
There was a point in my life, that I thought the game Grand Theft Auto San Andreas was the game killer. It had substance in it, that at that time no other games had. Well now it’s 2010, and a fury of games has came out. And I have changed my mind. But, I’m heavily debating on which game is the “Blocbuster Game”.
Instead of having a universal Blockbuster Game, I was thinking of a Blockbuster Game of the Year. I’m thinking Call of Duty Black ops is the BGotY with all the fan-fair it has received. I haven’t played it, but once I do I will chine in if it fits my bill of a BGotY. There also other games that come to mind: Red Dead Redemption and who can forget Halo: Reach?
All types of games that came out this year was good. But, I want to know what games you think is the Blockbuster Game of the Year to you. What’s your thoughts on what’s your best game overall. Games just get more sophisticated then my remote
