Another thrill riding game pack with suspense and terror. Killzone 3 is back, and it’s ready to take aim to the world. I have to admit, Killzone 3 is my first game in the series. Yeah, yeah, I know, I’m late. But, nevertheless, I am entertained by the doings of this game. Killzone 3 has some great graphics, a unique story; good game play, and a mulitplayer mode that is thrilling to say the least. With no prolonging, here’s the rest of my review.
First off, the graphics. The graphics of Killzone 3 makes the game feel real. Every area I go to, the graphics make it feel like I’m actually in the battle. Which is pretty cool, because it will have you hook from the moment you insert your disc into your PS3 system. The model for the character’s are great. Every detail about the character feature is good. From the facial expressions, to there death, they look good. I also love the scenery in the game. The level designers did a wonderful job in detailing each level. They make you feel like it’s a real place. The creators did a great job in the graphics by making you feel like you are actually there. The one minor thing I have a issue with, is when the enemy is shooting at you and your screen is going red. The animation looks to cartoonish and it kinda takes you away. It’s not a real big problem, but I can see why someone would not be “into” the game after seeing that.
We can’t forget about the story of Killzone 3. I don’t want to spoil the story for you, but I really enjoyed every bit of it. There were some loop holes that I’ve seen in the story (I don’t know if it was because this is my first game in the series, or if it was just this alone). There has to be something to be said about the ISA military. Throughout the game, there were loads of insubordination in the game from the soldiers. In one sense, if there weren’t then one can make a strong case saying that the game wouldn’t be the same. Still, that part of it was flawed. The cut-scenes was enriching; But, some of the character’s were bland to me. For instance, when Rico and Sev were talking, Sev was carrying out a normal voice, yet Rico would scream back at him nearly every-time. Even the Captain did not scream that much. I think that this is one of the best “Story” in game that I’ve played, yet I have to say, they could of taken some useless parts out of the game. Like one or two scenes dealing with the Helghast. Excluding those, if you are one of the one’s who love FPS for the story, then this game is for you.
Now to the bread and the butter, which is the game play. This game leaves you with a jam pack feeling in your mind. Things are literally coming at you at 100mph. The enemies are great at reacting towards you, although they do some dumb things like run at you when you are firing your gun. The controls are easy(And there is a option to change the control layout scheme if you don’t like it). The character’s movement are done well. I like the cover system, I just wish they had better places to hide. There’s a good amount of weapons to use in the game. In my experience, I rarely ran out of ammo with a gun. And if you do, you can easily find a weapon on the ground, or go to the ammo carts. I’ve heard some say that there’s so much going around that it is hard to concentrate. Yeah, there are those levels where you have to fast kill a enemy before others get you, but that’s what make the game challenging. One of the nice things I like about this game is that if you are hurt Rico will come save you. Now, this don’t happen every-time. There are times when he is too far away and can’t save you or you are too damaged to revive. Sometimes, there are glitches with that. He could be right there beside you, and say he is too far from you. That only happen a rare amount of times, but it does happen.
Also the machinery you will be able to ride is great. From tanks to those crawler’s, you will have loads of fun! The hard turning and readjustment is considered to be okay, because you are in a machine and it shouldn’t be any question why it’s difficult in some places to move. Game play in the game is made easy, so no worries there.
Last, but not least, is what the majority of the people who played FPS in the past five years look forward to…..Multiplayer. And Killzone 3 brings it. If you are a “Team-Work” person, you should definitely grab this game. There is three modes: Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations. Guerrilla Warfare is your typical Team Deahtmatch. Warzone, is objective driven, where you fight for different objectives in the game. And Operations is objective driven too, but most of the times your either defending or attacking. Operations and Warzone is the modes where I spend my time in the most. Both objectives is a team-work driven game. This game makes you have team work. You’ll have a different class to be in: Field Medic, Engineer, Marksman, Tactician and Infiltrator. Each has it’s own sets of guns and special abilities.
Field Medic, you are the one’s who are mainly going to revive your comrades. The only negativity about this, is that majority of the people respawn before the medic saves them; and also the guns isn’t really that good. Then you have the Engineer who’s main objective is to fix any weapons. Marksman, who’s the sniper in the group. And this class get’s the most heated discussions about “Camping”. Tactician, which main objectives is to create spawn points. And then the Infiltrator, who’s main role is to be in disguise as the other team.
The maps are pretty big and takes some time in learning them. Operations is the best, because all of the classes is put to good work. And of course, every multiplayer game that like this will have complaints about camping. In my opinion, campers are easy targets. That, and the maps make it “Bored” to camp in a way. The only people who get the criticism of camping, is the Marksman. They are able to be “cloaked” for a duration of time; and surprisingly, they are given the best assault rifle in the game. But, it is extremely easy to beat them, because mostly they stay in the same spot the entire game. I felt a wonderful experience with Killzone 3. The best multiplayer game I have played by far.
In conclusion, Killzone 3 is a great game to play. Lot’s of energy from the Graphics to the multiplayer. Once you pick up multiplayer, you will not put it down. In the near future, I’ll probably replay it with all the difficulty. The multiplayer will keep you hooked to the game for awhile.
