What level of difficulty do you enjoy your games to be on? What clenches your thirst to finish the game? Do you like to rough it out, and play on the hardest difficulty? Or do you like to take it easy and play on the easy mode? I always wanted to know the level of difficulty that people play on. It’s amazing to go on message boards and see people rant on how someone can’t play the game correctly, or I read someone who boast about beating the game on the hardest difficulty. It seems that there are some people who look down on others by the type of game mode they play. And to be honest, the majority of my games, I pick the easiest mode to play it. Okay, stop laughing. Really, now. Alright, after you get through with your burst of laughter, let me explain. Geesh.
Well, anyway, I play on the easiest level because it relief my stress. Yes, I like the challenges; Yes, beating the missions is somewhat satisfying. But, there’s so much stress that accumulates by playing with the hardiest difficulties. You hear it. People throwing their controller’s at their TV’s just because they didn’t get past a level in Gears of War(I admit, I came close in doing that). Games are meant to be fun! Exciting! Something of an escape from the real world. So, why do we get so mad at it? When I was a kid, I use to get “mad” if I lose a card game. I would take the draw four’s out of the UNO deck because I always was the one had to pick up four cards(Don’t shake your head, you did this too). Then I grew up saying something got to change. In doing so, I changed the way I played the game. I pick the easiest mode, because it was the least of the modes that would drive me crazy. Now, I actually appreciate the gaming world. I’m more involved in it. I love talking about it. Maybe this doesn’t make sense to some of y’all, but it plays a small part on why I play on the mode that I play on.
If you don’t know, I LOVE a game that has a storyline in it. I love fighting to catch every cut scene. There’s not a game that I’ve played, that I have ever skip a cut scene on. Love it. That’s one reason why I enjoy playing on the easier modes. I can sit back, and watch these brilliant scenes play on. I know for a fact if I rush in and play on the hardest difficulty I would skip that part because of my frustration level(Gotta know your limits). Yeah, I can get the same type of feeling for the story playing on the harder difficulty, but I feel more satisfied with it, after I almost destroy the enemy A.I.
Another reason I play on the easier modes, is because I want to know how the A.I’s will react. I want to get the “feel” of them first. I want to know the when, where, and how they will come at me in all the levels. Knowing this information, will easily get me hooked in playing the harder difficulty levels in my other play through. I see it as a challenge. Other people may call me names for it, but I don’t want to go head first into it. Multiplayer is different. The level of play on their depends on the players in the game. But the level of difficulty using the A.I’s depends on the developer.
One final thing to conclude this blog post, is the main thing why I play games in the first place….Which is to have fun. I want to have fun as MUCH as possible. Playing video games releases me from the real world. Why would I want to feel “stress”, like I do in the real world, while playing video games? I admit, there are variant types of stress. There could be good stress and bad stress. My good stress in video games is like a kid waiting to open his/her present on Christmas day. The anticipation of seeing what your parents/relatives/friends got you. That’s the good stress. The anticipation. That’s how I feel when I play games. Anticipating what will happen in my next move. Anticipating what the game story will be; Anticipating how the game ends. I don’t show my machoness if I beat a game higher difficulty then someone. Maybe you play the hard difficulties because you and me share the same trait…..Satisfaction.
