So, I’m taking a break from my usual learning experience with UDK. But, I want to talk to you about something in the news that came out awhile ago. And it’s dealing with the Call of Duty series. Yeah, I know, when will the news stop? Well, ironically, it’s not even dealing with the game. It’s dealing with a social website. It is called: Call of Duty Elite.
Call of Duty Elite, will be the social network for the COD series. On the site, you will have detailed stats of how your doing in the game. You can even show off your videos on there if you like(I bet Chris Smoove will enjoy that :D). Of course, we can’t have it all for free. That’s right folks, some features we have to pay for. To an extent, that we have to have a paid subscription PER month! Yeah, crazy huh? It hasn’t been said yet what the cost will be, but a lot of people is estimating that it will be $8 or less. Activision, haven’t said what features we are paying for at the moment.
Now to the nitty gritty. I’m not very clear of my stance in this situation. When the news first came out, I was like “I DEFINITLY will not buy this. Or even get on it”. But, day by day, I want to see what this website will do. I will not pay for the paid subscription service. That’s a def no-no. I have better ways to spend my money(Like games, movies, and some clothes…You know, the essentials). I just want to see the core without the paid service. It may just be like what we are experiencing on Black Ops now. I rarely go into the file share system anyways. So, that’s strike one for me for not getting it.
Will this be worth it, though? The main point is for the stats. If your not a stats padder like me, then this website is useless. Also, I only know one person who owns COD. Yeah, I could get in touch with other people around the world, but I would love to have this site primary to my outside friends.
The one thing that is cool, is that we can put youtube videos on there. I bet Activision will tell youtube to ban anyone who puts video’s on youtube that’s not through there service. I don’t expect anything less from them at this point.
In my mind, do we have enough CoD message boards as it is? We can go to youtube to find a plethora of CoD MP videos. We don’t need a social network for that. I think this will be the downfall of the series. Yes, I know that we have a choice to use it and not to use it. But, this could be the nail that will drive this series to the ground. I really do like this series. I hope they do keep making it every year. I’m a FPS junkie(Well, it sounds like I am for the past couple of years). This is what I NEED! Ok, that sounded to cynical to you?
In a way, it may not be that bad. The paid service, is cutting it. They are officially milking this series to the death. I can’t blame them, to be truthfully. CoD is a HOT series. Might as well strike where the fire is hot….But, will the fire last after this year?
Do you like the way Activision is handling things? I would love to hear your opinion, comment below to tell me what you think.
