I know, it’s been a long time for me to do some actual blogging. As you may, or may not know, I’ve been busy with some things. I’ve found my new found love of making games. I am now creating level’s. So, to me, that’s a starting point in my life. I hope I succeed in this, because I really have the desire for this.
Okay, enough with that lengthy introduction, let me get moving to what the subject is about. Which is game length. I hardly, if ever, can tell a length of a game. To me, some “short” games feel long; and some “long” games feel long. I don’t think “length” make a game. But, as expected, there’s people who will strongly disagree with me.
I play FPS games, and this is where I hear a lot of complaints. I hear that a certain game is too short. Like a game that’s only 10 hours, people complain about. Ten hours to me, is a LONG time to be playing a campaign mode. As matter of fact, it’s ENOUGH time to be playing the story mode. I don’t know if they were a “magic” length back in the old days for gaming. What’s up with people who can’t enjoy the story?
I know that we pay sixty dollar’s for a game. We want, no we DEMAND, every cent of it through gaming. Now, we have multiplayer that extends our gaming pleasure. If they add any more into the story, which you know I love the best, expect a higher price tag.
But, do game length == good story mode? I don’t think so. A bad story mode, will be a bad story mode regardless of hours played. I would rather play a short, but good story mode. Rather than a long, drawn out story mode. It’s not the length that get’s people mad, it’s the gameplay. Some games isn’t that good on that part.
In conclusion, judging a game by the length of the campaign/story mode is not good. It all depends on the story itself. If a story is too long, it will lose my attention. I don’t need a long drawn out story to make me proud. I need a good one, so I can talk about it here.
What do you think? Is the story mode to long? Or too short? Leave a comment below
