Unless you live under a rock, you should have noticed that the next-generation of game consoles is here. Stores were packed with people getting either the PS4 or the Xbox One. People playing the games, people talking about it on forums. As cool as that sounds, that wasn’t the case with everybody. Me, for example, is waiting to purchase the consoles(I may eventually get both). Nope, not waiting till Christmas. Waiting for a year or two to even get it. Why? There’s tons of games on last-generation that I haven’t played, and that is still good. No reason to drop those games. Just like the last gen(Is that what we are calling it now?) there’s defects and problem with the first models. And before you stop reading, here’s why I stated this.
Now to my first point, I’m waiting to get the new consoles. Just like with every new electronic devices, the firmware will need multiple patches. That may not be a big thing to some, but I don’t want to download a update every single day. Developers, Sony and Microsoft will find bugs that they didn’t notice while testing it out themselves; And will start issuing updates pronto. The other thing is the lack of launch titles. I don’t see the need to spend $400 – $500 for a console, then pay $60 for a game that I may or may not like. And yes, I know that I can research a game, but I don’t have a game review on youtube to judge my purchase, do I?
For a year or two, majority of the games will be a multi-platform games. With the exception of the exclusives, of course. If I can get it for the PS3 or the 360, there’s no need for me to get it for the next gen(Or current-gen, if that’s what you want to call it). And also, the defects. There’s already reports from both sides of the spectrum that had to turn in their consoles because of defects. I rather wait a year to minimize my chances of something to go wrong. I’m not saying that it will happen if I wait for a year, because that may happen to me regardless. At least, I would know what happen to it, and to see if I can fix it.
You know one of the main points of staying with last gen? Is that the games are still good. If you are not a graphics nut like myself, then the new generation graphics wouldn’t appeal to you. And to top that out, majority of the up-in-coming games will still be sold for the old gen. There is no need to rush out and get the new-generation consoles. One of the things that bugs me, is that the developers really haven’t harnessed the power of the PS3 and 360. They was just getting to it this year. Now, they will be trying twice as hard for the current-gen to get the best graphics as possible.
In conclusion, I think waiting for a current-gen is the right thing to do. With all the problems of the new generation, and the lack of games, staying with the last-gen is the best way to go. Give me your thoughts? What do you thing?
