James: You know mines bigger than yours
Josh: No, mine is!
Hugo: No mine is!
James: Oh everyone knows yours tiny.
Hugo: But, mine sells more than yours!
Josh: Oh hush, mines gets better exclusive!
James: Big whoop. Yours dies out on you too many times. Mines Big, and has better resolution than your two. That, and it HOLDS MORE!
Josh: Enough talking. James, get your PS3 and Hugo get your Wii and let’s see who’s the real man of the house!
Ha, I bet you thought it was something else? No? Dang, I need to be more clever next time. Anyways, the main thing I want to talk about to you today, is Console Wars. Yep, we all seen it or been apart of it. I have fallen victim to it, in so many ways. It came prevalent when Xbox came into the picture. I was such a Sony fanboy, that I would say all these bad things about Xbox. Then eventually, I got the Xbox the next year. Yeah, go figure. But, more people take this to the extremes. Which is CRAZY! We have Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo competiting for our money, not the other way around. Yeah, it’s nice to have a good conversation about it, but once it turns into name calling. You know it has gotten out of control.
Personal attacks from console discussions is ridiculous. I understand that you want to talk about your system, nothing wrong with that. But, I’ve seen plenty of topics bashing 360/ps3 that it’s toxic. As matter of fact, I can go into a topic just lightly covering the PS3, then somehow the 360 was put in the picture(and visa-versa). Then, everyone is in a flame war about which system is better. They start throwing personal attacks at each other. Like: “You’re Stupid” “You dumbass don’t know anything about anything” “You can’t afford a PS3, that’s why you got the Xbox” e.t.c. It’s like little kids are arguing(Which is probably the culprit of all of these topics). Of all of the things to throw personal fits about, it’s discussing other consoles. Really?
Companies are competing for our cash, not the other way around. We suppose to see the competition from the game companies producing the game. Arguing which game is better, is a good thing. Arguing about which console you have/think is better, is a another thing(Especially if the game is multiplatforms). Majority of the game is mulitplatform anyways. Discussing which console has the best exclusive is a WONDERFUL thing(Ok, that may sounded a little corny. Don’t judge). Because we are telling Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo that we want to see the best from there consoles. Now, having a Console War dealing with exclusives is a good healthy thing. The only bad part about this generation of games, is that the game may not be exclusives forever. Give some gays a year or two, and they will be in the game slot of your rival game console. That’s facts. And we have to face them. No matter how much we argue to the companies about it.
Now, what I’m about to say may sound contradictory to what I’ve been posting earlier. The one good thing about console wars discussion, we will see a game companies try to out do each other. That’s the ONE thing I have good to say about console wars discussions. The more and more we talk about the system, the more and more times the devs will see the discussion. They will see the passion that each person who owns one(Or all) of the systems, and will try to push the systems specs to the fullest. The latest game I have played was Killzone 3(Which you can see here and here). And that game looks so great, that everything around it looks like it’s alive. I’ve seen game trailers that look very impressive. I NEVER seen anything like this before ’05. The developers wants us to feel like we are in the actual game world. I tip my hats off to them. What a great thing to create. The devs tap into the console power, and has given us a masterpiece!
We need to come into agreement that all three systems have flaws. Not one system is the “End All” of this generation. Because if one of them was, we all wouldn’t be owning any other of the systems. I know I won’t! What’s the need to owning the competitors system, when the system I have right now is the better from the three? But, that’s living in the fantasy world. Xbox 360 has flaws. PS3 has flaws. Also, Wii has flaws. But, I see there pro’s way more than I see the con’s of the system(Well, that crappy Red Rings of Death >_>).
In conclusion, I can see the good and bad side of console wars. Me, I have all three. I use to fall in the “Console Wars” trap, but not anymore. Maybe because I’ve grown up? I don’t know. With all the great games out today, I don’t see why we are complaining about the Consoles. We should be complaining about the separate games on the system. That will garner more attention towards the Game Companies. Hey, it’s my wish I suppose. But, at least we all can agree on something….To agree to disagree…
